Ewell West Station - 150 years

4th April 2009

To mark the 150th anniversary of the railway line from Raynes Park to Epsom and the only station with its original building* a local event was held at Ewell West Station on 4 Apr 09, raising about £3,000 for local charities.

Four buses ran local services in Ewell (only one of which was an RF); here are a few pictures of the event.

The main service was a park & ride between the station and Ewell Tech (sorry, NESCOT),

whose utilitarian architecture looms through the trees. Routemaster RM1033 in service.

As befits a local event, the attractions were eclectic. This rather nice Citroen U23 lorry

from 1939, fitted with a Parisian steet organ, was one of them. See also here.

The local Fred Dibnah brought his John Fowler steam traction engine. I hope he had

a good day too.

RM2116 graces the front of the old station building with its stylish (Victorian? Edwardian?) addition.

Quality Line - part of the Epsom Coaches Group, sponsors of the event - now operate

the former country route 418, which they interwork (unusually for TfL) with the 406.

Seen here at Ruxley Lane is Enviro 400 DD2, passing RF486 on the 468.
